Super Over Win

The Indian women cricket team defeated the Australian team in the Super Over of their second T20I match, at the D.Y. Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai, on 11 December, 2022. The Indian team posted 20 for one in the Super Over, while the Australian team managed to reach 16 for one. With this win, the Indian team levelled the five-match series against Australia 1-1. 

Anti-Corruption Day

International Anti-Corruption Day is observed annually all over the world on 9 December, to spread awareness about creating a corruption-free society. The day also aims to make people aware about the negative consequences of indulging in corruption and encourages them to follow a righteous path. The theme of this year is, Uniting the world against corruption’.

Shining Silver

Olympic medalist Mirabai Chanu, won a silver medal in the 2022 World Weightlifting Championships in Bogota, Colombia, despite a wrist injury, on 7 December, 2022. The weightlifter lifted a total of 200kg, six kg behind Jiang Huihua, from China, who won the gold medal. Sharing her joy, Chanu tweeted that this was a small step towards her goal of winning an Olympic gold. 

Day to honour Armed Forces

Every year, Armed Forces Flag Day is celebrated in India on 7 December, to honour Indian soldiers, sailors and pilots and to recognize their contributions and achievements. The day is also observed to raise donations for the welfare of the Armed Forces staff. On this day, the Indian Armed Units, i.e., Indian Army, Air Force and Navy, organise various events to highlight the achievements of our armed forces.

India’s Under-19 women’s cricket team defeated the New Zealand team by four wickets in the fifth and final T20 match at the Mumbai Cricket Association’s Bandra-Kurla Complex ground on 6 December, 2022. With this win, the Indian team, under skipper Shwetha Sehrawat, completed a 5-0 series sweep. Having chosen to field first, the Indian bowlers ably restricted the New Zealand team to 119 for six, which contributed to the win.  

Datta Jayanti

Datta Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Lord Dattatreya is celebrated throughout India, particularly in Maharashtra, on the Full Moon Day in the Margashirsha month. This year, the day falls on 7 December, 2022. On this auspicious day, devotees observe a day-long fast and offer their prayers to Lord Dattatreya, who is regarded as a sage with divine wisdom.

IVD, also known as International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development, is observed annually on 5 September, to recognize and promote the contribution of volunteers worldwide. This year, the theme is ‘Volunteering is where compassion meets solidarity’. 

100% Carbon neutral

The 102-year-old State Seed Farm in Aluva town, Kerala, is all set to be declared carbon neutral by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, on 10 December, 2022. According to the officials’ report, this is the first seed farm in India to achieve a carbon neutral status. The farm, located on Thuruth Island in the Periyar river, has been an organic seed farm since 2012.
