Limited Series, Unlimited Excitement

Details about the India vs Sri Lanka limited-overs series have been revealed. Beginning on 18 July, all the matches will be held in Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium. Much to India’s excitement, the Indian team is gearing up for the series of 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is, under Rahul Dravid’s capable coaching and Shikhar Dhawan’s captainship.

17-year old Sameer Banerjee was shocked with happiness when he won the Junior Boys Wimbledon Championship. Sameer expressed gratitude to his family and to the large Indian presence in the crowd, supporting him. The future shines bright for Sameer as he contemplates between playing college tennis at Columbia University or continuing with Grand Slam participation.

Guntur to Space

This week, Sirisha Bandla became the third woman of Indian-origin to enter space, joining Richard Branson and five others on the crew of the Virgin Galactic’s test flight from New Mexico to the edge of space. The Andhra Pradesh-born aeronautical engineer tweeted her gratitude, and India couldn’t be prouder of her. 

Master Blaster to Masterchef

India’s most beloved cricketer seems to have taken up a new skill, one that many of us have attempted ourselves during the pandemic – cooking. A video shared via Instagram shows Sachin Tendulkar working on a dish in his kitchen, while using cricket terminology to explain it. Despite not knowing what the dish is, the clip has gone viral.

Dynamic Dravid

Rahul Dravid, one of India’s greatest cricket heroes, garnered praise from former captain of Sri Lankan cricket team, Aravinda De Silva, for being a great pick as a U-19 coach. The Indian team is set to play three ODIs and T20Is against Sri Lanka, who will be hosting the matches in Colombo starting July 13.

Sing, Don’t Sling

Assistant Conservator of Forests of West Nashik, Anand Reddy, took to Twitter to share an uplifting story. The birds of the village had been victims of children’s slingshots, and Reddy started a movement to educate the kids and win their hearts with empathy. The children gave up their slingshots and marched around the village, holding banners to raise awareness about protecting birds!

Tokyo, Here We Kom

In a moment of glowing pride, acclaimed boxer Mary Kom and captain of the Indian men’s hockey team, Manpreet Singh, were chosen to be the flag-bearers at the opening ceremony at this year’s Olympics, held in Tokyo. The Indian Olympic Association made the announcement that the ceremony will take place on the 23rd of July.

Village Cooking Goes International

In 2018, a group of farmers from Chinna Veeramangalam in Pudukkottai district decided to try their hand at YouTube. ‘Village Cooking Channel” gained popularity for its traditional cooking videos, with the team consisting of five cousins and their grandfather, a former caterer. They just made history by becoming the first-ever channel from Tamil Nadu to amass one crore subscribers.
