Magic Fingers

Teenage brothers Likith Kumar and Praneeth Kumar from Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh, have earned their names in several world records, including the Guinness Book of World Records, the Indian Book of Records, and the Wonder Book of Records, for their skill in speed typing. Their father Chemuduru Sivaprasad, said that parents have to recognise and encourage the hidden talents of their children. 

Restoration of the 13th Century Well

Jaffer Bowli (well), located on the premises of Khammam Fort, Telangana, was constructed by the Kakatiya rulers in the 13th century. To remove the silt that has accumulated over the years and to preserve its heritage, the Khammam district administration, with the archaeology department and the municipal corporation, is taking measures for the restoration of the well without harming its original structure. This restoration aims to make Jaffer Bowli, the best tourist destination in the district. 

Drivers of Education

Every month, six truck drivers from Narayanapura village, Karnataka, donate money to the Narayanapura Government School, so that the students can gain a quality education. They started their organisation, ‘Rajratna’, in 2022, through which they collect information about students’ requirements from the teachers. Apart from offering free English courses, Rajratna members have donated to build classrooms and libraries and also to acquire TV sets. 

Against All the Odds

Basanti Tudu, Latika Murmu, Meeru Hansda, and Sumitra Tudu became the first four women in the tribal village of Sahebdanga in West Bengal, to pass the Class X examination with their sheer determination and hard work. All four girls have single mothers and worked with them as daily wage labourers from a very young age. Despite their hardships and struggles, they never stopped pursuing their education and achieved their goal. 

New Parliament Building

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s New Parliament Building on 28 May, 2023. He also installed, ‘Sengol’, a historic sceptre, near the Lok Sabha Speaker’s chair. The newly constructed building has 888 seats in the Lok Sabha chamber and 384 seats in the Rajya Sabha chamber. The Prime Minister laid the foundation of the new building on December 10, 2020. 

Swimming Against the Odds!

11-year-old Lakshay Krishna Kumar from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, has recently earned his name in the Asia Book of Records, for swimming 15 km in three hours and eighteen minutes. Akshay was diagnosed with autism at an early age. Around the same time, his parents recognised his talent in swimming and encouraged him to develop his skills in the sport. 

Nurturing Young Talents!

Goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan is a pioneer of women’s football in India and became the first Indian woman to play in the English League in 2015. In 2018, she started the ‘She Kicks Academy’, to provide free tailor-made football training to talented, underprivileged girls in Delhi. Aditi says that she desires to create the right professional environment for young girls passionate about football. 

Transforming the School

Using his funds, Veeranna Madiwalar, the headmaster of the Nidagundi Ambedkar School in Vijayapur district, Karnataka, has transformed the Shabby and worn down school into a well-maintained one with a colourful wall, a library stacked with books, and a garden. Due to these facilities, the number of students who joined has grown over the years from 76 to 136. 

Than Singh ki Pathshala!

Nearly 80 children from slum areas in Delhi, who had earlier been engaged in menial work such as rag picking, are now able to gain an education due to the efforts of constable Than Singh. Than Singh started his school, ‘Than Singh ki Pathshala’, in 2015, to provide free education and to help children in Delhi’s slums escape a life of crime and labour. He also helped many students to get admission in government schools. 

Painting with Sunlight!

Have you ever thought about using sunlight to create artwork? Inspired by the works of celebrated sunlight artist Michael Papadakis, engineer-turned-artist Vignesh from Mayiladuthurai, Tamil Nadu, started practicing sunlight art by etching sunlight onto wood in 2016. His stunning portraits went viral during the COVID pandemic and eventually paved the way for more orders from admirers across the nation.
