World Peace Day

International Day of Peace, also known as World Peace Day, is observed every year globally on 21 September. The day is observed to solidify peace among countries and people all over the world and to work towards an environment where all humans are treated with respect, regardless of their race. This year, the theme is ‘End racism. Build peace. 

World Alzheimer’s Day

Every year, World Alzheimer’s Day is observed across the globe, on 21 September. Alzheimer’s is a mental illness that more often affects old people and weakens their memory, thus affecting their brain functions. The day is observed to spread awareness about this disease. The theme for this year is’ Know Dementia, know Alzheimer’s’. 

Day to show gratitude

World Gratitude Day, also known as Appreciation Day or the World Day of Gratitude, is celebrated annually on 21 September. The day is observed to motivate people to be thoughtful by expressing their gratitude and also encourage them to share happiness and appreciation with their loved ones. The first Gratitude Day was observed on 21 September, 1977 at the headquarters of the UN Meditation Group in New York. 

New Record

28-year-old Bajrang Punia, became the first Indian to claim four medals at the World Wrestling Championships, by winning a bronze in the current edition, in Belgrade, Serbia, on 18 September, 2022. The Indian wrestler had earlier won two bronze medals in 2013 and 2019 and a silver in 2018. 28-year-old Vinesh Phogat, also won her second World Championship bronze medal in the women’s 53kg category. 

Win for Women in Blue

The Indian Women Cricket Team defeated England, by seven wickets in the first One-Day International (ODI), at Hove, England, on 18 September, 2022. The Women in Blue, reached their target (232) in 44.2 overs, with seven wickets in hand, due to the incredible fifties from Yastika Bhatia, Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana. With this win, the Indian team now lead the three-match series 1-0. 

Wonder Kid

The two-year-old Siriki Vidhyardhari, from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, earned her name in the Wonder Book of Records, due to her extraordinary photographic memory. Siriki can recite the names of capitals of all Indian states in 40 seconds and can identify nine types of shapes, body parts, fruits and vegetables, flowers, birds, animals and alphabets, among others. The toddler also holds a record for performing five types of yoga asanas. 

World Ozone Day

International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, also known as World Ozone Day, is observed every year, across the globe on 16 September. The day is observed to create awareness regarding the depletion of the ozone layer and explore possible solutions for its preservation. On this day, environmentalists, scientists and experts all around the world, conduct talks and seminars about vital  importance of the ozone layer and its preservation. 

Project Cheetah

The Cheetah, the fastest animal on the earth, was declared extinct in India about 70 years ago. Now, the reintroduction of the Cheetah in India, is being done under an initiative, titled ‘Project Cheetah’. The Kuno-Palpur National Park (KPNP) in Madhya Pradesh, is all set to welcome eight cheetahs under an agreement signed earlier this year, between the Governments of India and Namibia. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, will release the cheetahs in the national park located in Sheopur district, Madhya Pradesh, on 17 September, 2022. 

Vishwakarma Jayanti

Vishwakarma Puja, also known as Vishwakarma Jayanti and Bhadra Sankranti, is marked to celebrate the birth of Lord Vishwakarma, the chief architect of the world. This year, the day falls on 17 September, 2022. The festival is mostly observed by architects, carpenters, engineers, sculptors, craftsmen and other skilled workers. On this day, devotees worship the idol of Lord Vishwakarma in their homes and workplaces and pray for success and prosperity in their business. 

Hindi Diwas

Every year in India, Hindi Diwas, also known as Hindi Day, is celebrated on 14 September. Hindi was adopted as an official language by the Constituent Assembly of India on September 14, 1949, under Article 343. The day is observed to honour Hindi literature and promote its cultural importance. On this day, various Hindi literary festivals, poetry sessions and essay writing competitions are organised across the nation to celebrate the occasion.
