Doodle Winner

Shlok Mukherjee from Delhi Public School in New Town, Kolkata, was declared as the winner of the 2022 Doodle for Google competition, India. His inspiring doodle titled ‘India on a center stage’, was featured for 24 hours on 14 November, 2022, on Google.co.in. The contest received over 115,000 entries from children in classes 1 to 10, from over 100 cities across the nation.  

National Education Day

Every year, National Education Day is celebrated in India on 11 November. The day is observed to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, a renowned freedom fighter and the first education minister of India. On 11 November, 2008, then President Pratibha Patil, inaugurated the first National Education Day celebrations at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. 

Potter’s fridge

M. Sivasamy from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, has built an eco-friendly clay fridge that requires zero electricity to keep vegetables, fruits and curd fresh up to four days. Born into a family of potters, the 70-year-old created two variants of the fridge. One is 1.5 feet in length and the other one is 2 feet, which cost Rs 1,700 and Rs 1,800 respectively. So far, the potter has sold more than 100 pieces. 

Stop Pneumonia

World Pneumonia Day is observed annually on 12 November. The day is observed to raise awareness about pneumonia and to encourage people to take preventive measures such as vaccinations. The theme of this year is, ‘Championing the fight to stop pneumonia’. To observe this day, volunteers across the globe organize several programs and discussions to take steps towards eradicating the disease. 

Uttarakhand Diwas

Uttarakhand Foundation Day, also known as ‘Uttarakhand Diwas’, is celebrated every year in India on 9 November. The day is observed to commemorate the formation of Uttarakhand on 9 November, 2000, as India’s 27th state. The State Foundation Week’, which annually begins on 3 November and ends on 9 November, is a special celebration that lasts for an entire week. 

New Achievement

Subash Babu became the first Indian scientist to win the prestigious Bailey K. Ashford Medal and the Fellow of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (FASTMH) award for 2022, in its 82-year history. Dr Babu, who is the Scientific Director of the ICER (International Centre for Excellence in Research)-India Programme, was awarded for his research and contribution to tropical medicine, which he began in 1995. His research centered on endemic infections in India and is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, USA. 

Science Day

Every year, World Science Day for Peace and Development is celebrated worldwide on 10 November. The day is observed to highlight the importance and relevance of science in our daily lives and to remember the significant contribution of science in achieving global peace. The theme of this year is, ‘Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development. The day was first observed worldwide on 10 November, 2002. 

National Cancer Awareness Day

National Cancer Awareness Day is observed annually in India, on 7 November. According to World Health Organization (WHO), Cancer is the leading cause of death across the world. The day is observed to spread awareness about early diagnosis and treatment of the disease. The day also coincides with the birth anniversary of the Nobel prize winner, Madame Curie, who is known for her valuable contribution treatment of cancer. 

Birth Anniversary

India paid tribute to Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, better known as C.V. Raman, on his 134th birth anniversary on 7 November, 2022. Born in 1888, the physicist is known for his work in the field of light scattering, known as the ‘Raman effectand was awarded the prestigious Nobel Prize in 1930. With this honour, Raman became the first person in Asia to receive a Nobel Prize in any field of science. 

Guru Nanak Jayanti

Every year, Guru Nanak Jayanti is celebrated on the full moon day of the Kartik month. The festival, also known as Guru Purab or Prakash Parv, is observed to commemorate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. This year, the 553rd birth anniversary of Guru Nanak falls on 8 November, 2022. On this day, devotees conduct prayers in Gurudwaras and their homes.
