Doodle for Bubble Tea!

On 29 January, 2023, Google celebrated the popularity of the Bubble Tea, with an interactive doodle. Bubble Tea, also known as Boba Tea’, is a non-alcoholic, non-carbonated cold tea beverage. The beverage gained popularity during the Covid-19 pandemic. The popular search engine has selected 29 January to mark the third anniversary of the tea emoji. 

Holocaust Remembrance Day

Every year, the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust, is observed on 27 January, to take initiatives such as educational programmes to prevent such genocide in the future. This year, the day will be observed under the theme, ‘Home and Belonging, to highlight the humanity of the survivors of this genocide, who had their home and sense of belonging taken from them 

Fixing the Mishap

13-year-old Masilamani from Puducherry, decided to improve the pathetic condition of the Sendhanatham road, by himself, after his grandfather sustained injuries due to a pothole. The eighth-grade student collected sand, gravel and other materials. After mixing them with cement, he filled the pothole and other damaged portions of the road. The boy was praised for his act and was presented with shawls by his neighbours. 

Magic of Books

Himanshu Kafaltia, a Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Karnaprayag, Uttarakhand, has opened 16 libraries in the state to help aspirants to get all the resources they need, to clear the civil service exams. He also established a Reader’s Club in all these libraries. So far, 38 aspirants, who are members of these libraries, have succeeded in clearing the civil service and other competitive examinations. 

Happy Republic Day

Happy Republic Day! The Constitution of India came into effect on 26 January, 1950. To commemorate this historic event, Republic Day is celebrated every year in India on 26 January. In 2023, India will be celebrating its 74th Republic Day. The day is celebrated in all Indian cities with great joy and pride with flag hoisting and parades. 

National Tourism Day

Did you know that India established its tourism department under the Ministry of Transport and Communication, in 1958? Tourism is essential for the economic development of a country. Hence, National Tourism Day is celebrated annually in India on 25 January to encourage the arrival of both foreign and domestic tourists in the nation.  

India at Oscar 2023!

It was a big day for Indian cinema on 24 January, 2023, as the nation secured not one but three Oscar nominations this year. Indian movie RRR’s song, Naatu Naatu’, which recently won the Golden Globe award, scored an Oscar nomination in the Best Original Song category. Two Indian documentaries, ‘All That Breathes’ and ‘The Elephant Whisperers’, have also been nominated in the Documentary Feature Film category and Documentary Short Film category respectively. 

Parakram Diwas

Did you know that the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is celebrated as ‘Parakram Diwasin India? Since 2021, Parakram Diwas is celebrated on 23 January, to honour his selfless contribution to the freedom movement. Born in 1897, Netaji formed a military regiment named ‘Azad Hind Fauj’ and a woman battalion named ‘Rani Jhansi regiment’, to fight the British rule. 

Day to prioritize Education

The International Day of Education is established in 2019. It is celebrated worldwide on 24 January, to highlight the role of education in peace and development. This year, the fifth International Day of Education will be dedicated to support the girls and women in Afghanistan, who have been denied their right to education. The theme of this year is, ‘To invest in people, prioritize education’. 

National Girl Child Day

Did you know that the National Girl Child Day was first initiated by the Ministry of Women and Child Development in 2008? Since then, the day is celebrated annually on 24 January, to promote the well-being of girl children in India. The day is also observed to spread awareness about their importance and rights.
