Harekala Hajabba was awarded the Padma Shri on November 8, 2021, by President Ram Nath Govind at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. Hajabba is an orange vendor from Harekala village in Mangalore, Karnataka. He was honoured with the award for building a government primary school and high school in his village, with the money he had saved and donations from people and politicians who saw his commitment.
