Reward of Hardwork

27-year-old Muna Sethy, a son of a daily wage worker, secured 76th rank in the Odisha Civil Services (OCS) examinations, with his perseverance and determination. Muna said that as an Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officer, he would work for the proper implementation of poverty alleviation schemes, in order to help the poor and also for the promotion of education. 

Happy Dussehra

Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is an auspicious festival celebrated in India, to mark the end of Navratri and Durga Puja celebrations. This year, the day falls on 5 October. On this day, people celebrate the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana, the demon king, and to mark the victory of Goddess Durga over the evil asura, Mahishasura. 

World Teacher’s Day

World Teacher’s Day, also known as International Teacher’s Day, is celebrated on 5 October, every year, in about a hundred nations across the globe. This year, the theme is ‘The Transformation of Education Begins with Teachers. The day is observed to honour the contribution of teachers all over the world towards their students and to spread awareness among teachers to fulfill the needs of students. 

A New Beginning

Kantesh Kumar Mishra, a 2015-batch IPS officer of Bihar cadre, has decided to open a library in Chakrabandha forest area, a remote Maoist stronghold in Aurangabad district, Bihar. By doing so, he aims to draw the children into the mainstream and help them prepare for competitive exams. “Education is an important tool as it motivates the youth to concentrate on studies,” says Mishra. There has been large scale disruption in the lives of the villagers in this area and Mishra wants to bring some stability.  

Happy Navratri

Every year, Navratri, the nine-day auspicious festival, is celebrated widely all over India, with love and enthusiasm. During this festival, devotees welcome and worship the nine forms of Goddess Durga in their homes, while praying and fasting. This year, Navratri begins on 26 September, 2022 and will end with the celebrations of Dusshera, also known as Vijayadashami, on 5 October, 2022. 

World Environmental Health Day

World Environmental Health Day is celebrated globally every year on 26 September. The day is observed to spread awareness about environmental health issues and the significant contribution of environmental health professionals. This year, the theme is ‘Strengthening Environmental Health Systems for the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals’. Various seminars and workshops regarding environmental health, are conducted, all over the world, to mark this day. 

Rethinking Tourism

World Tourism Day is celebrated every year, globally on 27 September. The day is observed to spread awareness about the importance of tourism and its social, cultural and economic impact on our society. This year, the theme is ‘Rethinking Tourism’. We can plan a vacation using many travel apps such as to celebrate this day. 

Day to use Sign Languages

Every year, International Day of Sign Language is celebrated all over the world, on 23 September. The theme for this year is ‘Sign Language Unites Us’. There are around 70 million deaf people across the globe. The day is observed to make them feel part of community with the frequent use of sign language, and to spread awareness about its importance. 

2k Library

Though he had not gained education himself, 50-year-old scrap dealer, Ismail Kanathur, has built a small library with 2000 books, at his house in Balepuni village, Karnataka. Ismail lends his books for free not only to the teachers, students and any other interested individuals, but also donates some of them to the libraries of educational institutions. The residents of Balepuni village also borrow books from his library. 

Ensuring Safety

35-year-old Asha Kaithwas, the sarpanch of Jhiri panchayat in Burhanpur district, Madhya Pradesh, mortgaged her jewellery for installing night vision CCTV cameras, in her Jhajhar village, which forms a part of the Jhiri gram panchayat. The need for CCTV cameras became a concern after the abduction of a tribal boy, from Jhajhar. Though the boy was found two days later, Kaithwas decided to work on installing CCTV cameras to ensure safety in the nearby villages.
