Hand-knitted shoes

Three decades ago, Mukutmoni Moirangthem, from Kakching district, Manipur, started knitting woolen shoes, as she couldn’t afford to buy new shoes for her school-going daughter. Now, she has employed around 20 people to work for her and found recognition for her work not only in India but also abroad. She was also awarded the Padma Shri in 2022, for her efforts to train and empower women.
