Guru Purnima is observed every year not only in India, but also in Nepal. This year, the day is being observed on 13 July, 2022. Also known as Vyasa Purnima, the day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sage Ved Vyasa and to pay respect to teachers. The festival is celebrated by Hindus, Jains and Buddhists. It is the day when Buddha gave his first sermon at Sarnath and when Mahavira chose his first disciple. It is also believed to be the day that Shiva, as the Adi Guru, gave knowledge of Yoga to the Saptarishi.
