Feeding the Hungry

Poonam amma, a trans woman from Mumbai, started an initiative last month to feed the poor and hungry, breakfast and lunch for just one rupee. Her organization named, ‘Khwahish Foundation’, has 5000 members of the trans community and runs a kitchen managed by 16 staff members. Currently, 700-800 people are being fed daily through this initiative and around 300 trans people provide a daily contribution of Rs 200.
