India paid tribute to Freedom Fighter and Social Reformer, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, on his 102nd death anniversary on 1 August, 2022. Lovingly called ‘Lokmanya’, which means ‘accepted by the people’ and as the ‘The Maker of Modern India’, by Mahatma Gandhi, Tilak strongly believed in Swaraj (self-rule) and is credited as the first leader of the Indian Freedom Movement. The freedom fighter breathed his last on 1 August, 1920.
