World Turtle Day

World Turtle Day is celebrated every year globally on May 23. Turtles are one of the oldest reptile groups. There are 300 species of turtles in the world and 129 of them are endangered. The day is observed to create awareness among people about helping turtles survive and thrive in their natural habitat. On this day, many seminars and numerous turtle protection events and activities are organised by interested communities to mark the occasion.
