Promoting Communal Harmony

- April 18, 2022

To promote  communal harmony, the famous Chennakeshava temple in Belur town, Karnataka, continued its age-old tradition of starting its rathotsava (chariot festival) celebrations, after reciting the verses of the Quran. Though it is not known exactly when this tradition started, the temple manual, which dates back to 1932, mentions the existence of this tradition. The temple was built by the Hoysala king, Vishnuvardhana, to commemorate his victories against the Cholas in 1116 AD.
