Nightingale Nurse Award

50-year-old Daniel Vijayaraj was the first male nurse from India, to receive the prestigious Nightingale Award, instituted by the National Health Service (NHS) Foundation Trust, in England. A native of Keeladi village in Tamil Nadu, Vijayaraj joined South Tees Hospital Middlesbrough, England, in 2001. Now, he is a specialist in dialysis and cardioversion and also guides nursing students. The memory of the care that was provided by nurses for his ailing mother, encouraged the young Vijayaraj to pursue his career in nursing.
