Five years ago, Sivapriya and Haripriya, teenage sisters from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, started farming, when their family suffered a major financial crisis. They cultivated cabbage, tomato, and cauliflower in the 10 cents of land around their house. Now, the sisters farm on 80 cents of land given to them by three landowners and use organic fertilizers to maintain the nutrient balance and healthy growth of plants. Farming has become a major source of income for the family and they have regular customers, who directly buy vegetables from them.
