Saviour Farmer

Sathyanarayana Beleri, from Kerala, grows 650 varieties of traditional rice in a 25-cent artificially created paddy field, since his land is not conducive for the cultivation of paddy. On 11 November, 2021, he was presented with the Plant Genome Saviour Farmer Reward, by Union Minister for Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar, in Delhi. The techniques applied by Sathyanarayana also impressed the National Gene Bank in Delhi and he was given 30 varieties of rice to conserve.
