The International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated every year on October 11, to empower and amplify the voices of young girls and safeguard their rights. The day is celebrated to promote the progress of women and girls, who represent half of the world’s population. On December 19, 2011, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to declare October 11 as International Day of the Girl Child.
