A campaign, known as Kitab Daan, was started this January in Bihar’s Purnia district. The mission of this campaign was to set up libraries in each panchayat of Purnia. Now, Purnia, which has a low literacy rate of 52 percent, has become the first district to have a library functioning in each of its panchayats. Young students and bibliophiles in the rural areas of Purnia are benefitting by reading books and journals from these libraries.
