A portrait seller tries to interest Chanchal Kumari, the princess of Roopnagar, in a portrait of Emperor Aurangazeb. She flings the portrait on the floor and steps on it, inviting her friends to do the same. Aurangazeb hears of this insult and decides that the rebellious princess must be inducted into his harem. Desperate to escape from this humiliation, Chanchal Kumari asks Raj Singh, the Maharana of Mewar to save her.
This Amar Chitra Katha is adapted from the historical novel, Raj Singh, by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. The novel is based on historical facts, and the incidents involving the princess of Roopnagar are found in James Tod's Annals and Antiquities of Rajasthan – Volume 1
